1.选A。It's necessary that+从句。根据句意，以这种或其他方式解决这个问题是必要的。只要用一般现在时即可。
2.选B。因为先行词是small town，可以换成说，he had grown up as a child “in”the small town. 原句省略了介词，不能构成介宾结构形成状语，所以用关系副词where。where=in which（which就相当于small town）
3.选D。先看A,happen是不及物动词，没有被动！而participate=involve ,这是做题技巧，若有词义相同的，不可能选之。其次，他们都解释为含有。include是包括的意思，意为“超过两种物质被包括在这个化学反应中”而不是“包含”！

这是不定冠词与定冠词的差异。a(an)或者什么都不加,都是不定冠词，the定冠词。英语中的不定冠词与定冠词实则与中文里的虚指和实指有异曲同工之妙。

不定冠词是虚指，如I work at a school.这里虚指我在一家学校工作，甚至你可以译为我是一名教员。强调的是你的工作范围或者说职业。比方说,初中有段最通俗的对话如下:
Wei Fang:Hello,Li Ming
Li Ming:Hello,Wei Fang
Wei Fang:Let's go to school
Li Ming:All right
注意,这里的Let's go to school,school前没没有加词,是不定冠词,虚指,标准译为:我们上学去吧.指的是我们上学这件事,并不强调是去哪家学校.


而I work at the school 是实指，特指我在那所学校工作（一般前文已经提及那所学校了，比方说XX school），强调的实际工作的那所学校场所。

1  这三个词作副词表示 “仅、只”可以换用，并且都放在它们所修饰的成分之前，merely的用法较正式。 如：

     Instead of answering，she merely／only／just smiled．  
     她没有作答，只是微笑而已。

     She’s come here just／only／merely to see you．                
     她来这里只是为了看你。

 

  2  作形容词时, only表示“仅有的”；mere表示“仅仅的、单单的”；just意为“公正的”。如：

    a just man 光明正大的人

    They were the only people who had the keys． 只有他们有钥匙。
     Mere words won’t help．       光说（不做）无济于事。 

补充：我不能仅为了买一条新领带就去法国。

至于什么时候用do  you，和are you  ，这个只要记住，一个简单句只能有一个谓语动词。
